Thoughts On Joost and 3rd party Applications
Lately I have been thinking long and hard about 3rd party video applications like Joost and others. It is no question that these applications are a lot simpler to develop with phenomenal frameworks that converge web applications like Apollo. My question comes to how popular and big this market really is? Do viewers and publishers want to be able to download applications to view content. Is the internet browser suffice or do you need that full screen video playback experience. Well I did ask my Viddler friends (check comments):
Well it seems to be consensus that the jury is still out on this one.
If one can remember back 5 years ago, when Real built an entire content network all inside there download application based on sharing the advertisement they killed there business and gained little adoption. What is so dramatically different this time around?
If 3rd party applications succeed it will be due to the same reasons that other online sites are doing so well: faster bandwidth, awareness of online video is growing, and more people are shooting video.
